Orville Richard Burrell (born October 22, 1968), better known by his stage name Shaggy, is a Jamaican-American pop singer and rapper. He is known for his hit singles "Boombastic", "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel". He is said to have taken his stage name from his shaggy hair.

Burrell was born in Kingston, Jamaica. At the age of 18, he and his family moved to the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, New York. In 1987, he took singing courses in Brooklyn and was discovered a year later, while singing in the streets with friends

Military service

In 1988, Shaggy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman with "I" Battery, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines, with which he served during the Persian Gulf War. It was during this time that Shaggy perfected his signature singing voice, breaking the constant monotony of running and marching cadences with his flair for inflection. It is also where he got the inspiration for his song "Boombastic

RICARDO ARJONA

Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales was born on January 19, 1964 in Jocotenango, Guatemala, as the son of Ricardo Arjona Moscoso and Mimi Morales de Arjona. He lived most of his childhood in Guatemala City, where he also began his training musical.4 At twelve years old, participated in the contest Child Youth Festival 74, winning the event with the song "Thanks to the world", a composition of its padre.5

Although initially studied architecture and engineering, graduated from the School of Communication Sciences at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) 0.6 Arjona was a talented basketball player who played for Leones de Marte and TRIAS.7 As national team member in Guatemala, Central America toured. Until recently, held the record of Guatemalan player with the most points (78) scored in a single match of baloncesto.8 9 also taught at a primary school called St. Helena III, 6 in which he claimed to have spent six hours giving lessons and rest of the day playing fútbol.8 This earned him a visit from a representative of the Ministry of Education, who was sent to assess their students. The representative considered that the education of the students was actually higher than the level promedio.10

 

Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales nació el 19 de enero de 1964 en Jocotenango, Guatemala, como el hijo de Ricardo Arjona Moscoso y Mimi Morales de Arjona. Vivió la mayor parte de su infancia en la Ciudad de Guatemala, donde comenzó también su formación musical.4 A los doce años, participó en el concurso Festival Infantil Juventud 74, ganando el evento con la canción «Gracias al mundo», una composición de su padre.5

Aunque en un inicio estudió arquitectura e ingeniería, se graduó en la Escuela de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC).6 Arjona fue un talentoso jugador de baloncesto que jugó para Leones de Marte y TRIAS.7 Como miembro del equipo nacional de Guatemala, realizó una gira por Centroamérica. Hasta hace poco, tenía el récord del jugador guatemalteco con más puntos (78) anotados en un solo encuentro de baloncesto.8 9 También enseñó en una escuela primaria llamada Santa Elena III,6 en la que afirmaba haber pasado seis horas dando clases y el resto del día jugando al fútbol.8 Esto le valió la visita de un representante del Ministerio de Educación, que fue enviado para evaluar a sus alumnos. El representante consideró que la educación de los alumnos era en realidad superior al nivel promedio.10i
